Rubber has a certain lifespan, but it ages over time.

A typical rubber band lasts about three months, with those with a corded outer layer lasting slightly longer.
When not in use, keep them in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and away from strong acids and bases. They generally last about a year.
For natural rubber, keep the temperature below 10°C for optimal preservation.
Another way to extend the lifespan of rubber bands is to apply talcum powder to the surface of the rubber product when not in use.
