Why a rubber band is unsafe for the oven?

Sometimes, to secure food, we might casually tie it with a rubber band and put it directly into the oven-please stop immediately, this is extremely dangerous! Today, we'll discuss from a materials science perspective why ordinary rubber bands and ovens are mortal enemies.

I. What Happens to Rubber Bands at High Temperatures?

Softening, Melting, and Even Combustion
Most common rubber bands cannot withstand the high temperatures of an oven. They will first soften and lose their elasticity, then begin to melt. If the temperature is high enough, they may even catch fire, posing a safety hazard.

Release of Toxic and Acrid Gases
When rubber is heated and decomposes, it releases toxic and pungent chemical gases, instantly polluting your kitchen air and severely ruining the taste of food.

Leaving Stubborn and Harmful Residues
Melted rubber becomes a viscous liquid, sticking firmly to the oven rack and interior walls, forming extremely difficult-to-clean grime. These residues can contaminate other food the next time you bake.

II. What are Safe Alternatives?

So, what should we use to tie food together in the kitchen?

First choice: Dedicated kitchen cotton rope/baking rope. This is the most traditional and safest option, designed specifically for cooking, heat-resistant, and does not release harmful substances.

Secure oven-safe heat-resistant silicone bands. A few products on the market are made of food-grade heat-resistant silicone. However, please note: always make sure the product packaging clearly states "oven-safe" and specifies the heat resistance temperature; otherwise, do not attempt to use it.

From Oven Safety to DaXiang Rigorous Attitude Towards Product Application

As a professional rubber band manufacturer, DaXiang Polymer Materials understands that clearly informing customers of the correct usage scenarios and safety boundaries of a product is just as important as providing high-quality products.

While our rubber bands and rubber rings have passed stringent environmental and safety certifications such as SGS RoHS, they are designed for binding, securing, and sealing at room temperature or in normal environments, and are not designed for high-temperature cooking scenarios.

In our modern factory spanning over 20 acres, we rigorously control every step from raw materials to finished products, ensuring stable and reliable performance for their intended applications. We firmly believe that "quality is the eternal guarantee," a guarantee that also includes our earnest reminders to you regarding the safe use of our products.
